Lesson 3: Earth's Crust ~ Myths
Ancient people used stories to explain the natural world around them because the world can be a scary and confusing place. As time went on, humans gathered more information about the world and these stories became inaccurate thus turned into myths (we no longer believe these stories). Humans gather their knowledge by using science and making observations about the natural world. The world is always changing and so does our knowledge. What we learn today in textbooks, on the internet, in school may one day (20 years? 100 years from now?) turn into a myth. Keep an open mind!

Discuss myths about:
how mountains are formed,
cause of earthquakes,
cause of volcanoes.

Register on Glogster: The online poster presentation (See your word doc "glogsterinfo" for sign-in information!)

It's your turn to create a myth (a story that no one believes these days because it is inaccurate based on current knowledge) about one (1) of the following:
how mountains are formed OR
the cause of earthquakes OR
the cause of volcanoes.
Please pick 1 only, do NOT do all 3!

With a partner or on your own: Open a Word Document!
Write down at least 4 main points about your myth (see the 'Pele myth' in the powerpoint presentation as an example!)
Your myth should include a powerful spirit/god/goddess/animal/unique human being(s)/monster/creature.
Your myth explains 1 of the above (earthquakes/volcanoes/mountains).
Help each other with your myths but your final myth should be different from your partner's or group's.

Make a poster to illustrate your myth. Type your myth and add graphics/fonts/colours. This is to be done individually.
The text, pictures, background/colours should all relate to your myth!
