Lesson 6: Online volcano study!

Please work individually and quietly for the VIRTUAL VOLCANO (#1) activity. After your chart is filled in, you may ask your 'shoulder' partner for help in the other activities.

1. click on the word doc for a chart to fill in!

2. click on the link: Discovery.com to try out the VIRTUAL VOLCANO. Check out the earth and the volcanoes. Fill in the chart.

When you have finished #2. Raise your hand, let me know. There is a 'challenge' question you must answer before continuing.

3. Find an example of each type of volcano (see your chart). Google Sqaured is REALLY helpful for this part, I suggest you go there and type in 'volcano' in the search box. *composite volcano = stratovolcano: They are the same***

4. "Think it Through" Imagine the Mactaquac dam crumbled due to age and you were caught in the flood waters and whisked away to an island, where you now live. You search the island and discover an active volcano.
A) How do you know it is 'active'?
B) Which type of volcano is on your island? Why this type?
C) How could you take advantage of living near a volcano? (benefits of volcanoes) (plus side of volcanoes)

Raise your hand (in the shape of a 'peace sign') to show me you are finished! Congratulations!
